Recently, the CDC and FDA issued updated guidance calling on healthcare organizations to add more N95s now and transition away from crisis capacity strategies for respirators.
In your mission to protect more clinicians with N95-level protection and achieve compliance to the new guidance, I wanted to let you know Honeywell has NIOSH-certified Surgical N95 Respirators available for order right now.
Honeywell is ready to help respond to new CDC guidance (4/9/21)
Honeywell has continued to increase production this year to be ready when the CDC recently updated its guidance for use of N95s: “Once personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies and availability return to normal, healthcare facilities should promptly resume conventional practices.” It also stated that for extended use of N95 respirators among cohorted patients, respirators should be discarded immediately after being removed and not re-used. Considerations should include the ability of the N95 respirator to retain its fit as well as contamination concerns.
FDA Letter to Healthcare Providers (4/9/21)
While the FDA is not yet rescinding the EUAs for N95 decontamination systems, the agency instructed healthcare facilities to: “Increase inventory of available NIOSH-approved respirators—including N95s and other FFRs… Even if you are unable to obtain the respirator model that you would prefer, the FDA recommends that you obtain and use a new respirator before decontaminating or bioburden reducing a preferred disposable respirator.”
N95s recommended by CDC as cases increase
As variants of concern like B.1.1.7 become more prevalent and unfortunately, COVID cases rise again, other recent CDC updates advised the use of face masks to care for a patient with suspected or confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection should be avoided except as a last resort. The agency called for use of NIOSH-approved N95 respirators because N95s “offer the highest level of both source control and protection against inhalation of infectious particles.”
